Hyun Lee

A cellist, Hyun has dedicated her career to the art of classical music, sharing her passion for the cello through performances, teaching, and collaborative projects. Her journey has taken her to esteemed venues including Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the Seoul Arts Center, to name a few, offering audiences a glimpse into her versatile and heartfelt interpretations. Currently, Hyun holds positions that reflect her commitment to musical excellence in education and performance. Since 2010, she has been a core faculty member at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, contributing to the development of aspiring musicians in cello, chamber music, and orchestral programs. Additionally, she is the director of chamber music and a cello faculty member at Powers Music School, and she is an affiliated instructor at Harvard University. At Brandeis University and Boston University, she taught cello lessons, string pedagogy and technique classes, and chamber music. A passionate advocate for the intersection of education and performance, Hyun tours with esteemed chamber groups, including Hubbard Quartet, Belmont Trio, and Philharmonia Boston Chamber Orchestra. She has also been serving as both artistic director and executive director of the Boston Cello Ensemble since 2010. Her academic achievements include a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, where she was honored with induction into Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society. She also holds a master’s degree and an Artist Diploma from Yale University, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
