At Concord Academy, the visual arts thrive, imagination knows no bounds, and students explore diverse media with the expert guidance of educators who are practicing artists.
our philosophy
By fostering empathy through interpretation and critique, our Visual Arts department empowers students to shape both their craft and their worldview. Our approach nurtures individual voices and instills a profound appreciation for the creative process.
The arts are integral to the CA student experience, infusing creativity into every aspect of learning. The Visual Arts program offers over 30 studio art courses in eight forms of media designed to inspire exploration, risk-taking, and problem-solving by teaching students to see, create, and critique. Each discipline has a progressively challenging curriculum that evolves as the artist develops: from a sketch to a feature-length film, from a coil pot to an architectural model—the possibilities are limitless. Taught in our state-of-the-art Math and Arts Center, classes prioritize hands-on art-making with lectures, screenings, discussions, and critiques complemented by art, film, and design history courses while drawing on Boston’s rich collection of museums and galleries.
